What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and How does it work?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of maintaining, upgrading, and improving a website’s content. SEO is incredibly important for big businesses out there. They are what help search engines find and index your website. In this web tutorial, you will learn the importance of Search Engine Optimization and why.

What does SEO do?

SEO increases a website’s ranking and SEO scores. They rely on different techniques that make their SEO scores go up. These are what help web browsers generate the content at the Search Engine Results Page (SERP). The SERP is the page that lists down all the URLs, images, videos, and other content that are related to a user’s request.

Search Engine Results Page (SERP)

You should know that a web browser’s main objective is to provide its users quality content for the users to keep using their services. Therefore, web browsers heavily rely on these SEO scores to produce quality content for their users. The higher the SEO score, the better a website’s ranking is on a SERP.

What are SEO scores?

SEO scores require certain criteria from a website’s content. Mainly, the SEO scores heavily rely on user friendly content. However, there are some websites that cheat their SEO scores for their websites to be listed as first on a SERP.

Here are some of the few criteria required by SEO scores:

  1. Internal Linking
  2. Flesch Reading Ease
  3. Site Structure
  4. Site Security (SSL Certificate)

White Hat vs. Black Hat SEO Techniques

Though there are several ways to incorporate these SEO techniques, there are some techniques that are frowned upon by web browsers. These forbidden techniques are what’s known as black hat SEO techniques. These techniques manipulate a website’s content for it to get a higher SEO score. Some of which include keyword stuffing, cloaking, and copying other website’s content. These black hat SEO techniques will actually make a website’s SEO score go down. Therefore, to be able to gain a higher SEO score, create content that is meant for your users rather than content meant for attaining higher SEO scores. In this way, you will earn more points to be able to rank up to a SERP.
